VFW Auxiliary Patriot’s Pen Scholarship Essay Contest Winners

VFW Auxiliary Patriot's Pen Scholarship Essay Contest Winners

Each year the VFW sponsors a patriotic writing contest for students enrolled in grades 6 to 8.  This year’s theme for the 300-400 Patriot’s Pen Scholarship written essay contest was, “America’s Gift to my Generation.”  34 students enrolled in Mrs. Robin Martin’s class and Mr. Joel Fisher’s class submitted essays to the Lake Chautauqua VFW Post No. 8647 in Mayville.

Participants were invited to attend a lunch time pizza party hosted by the VFW Post.  Each student received a certificate of participation, patriotic book, and U.S. Flag.  The three judges, Dominic Deponceau, and Thomas Jordan chose two student winners from Sherman.  They are Sindy Torres and Chloey Kopta.  In addition to the awards above, the winning students each received $100.

The winning essays advanced to the District 6 (western New York) level of judging.  Results should be announced in the near future.
